SIPRI is launching a virtual community of practice (COP) on human-centred approaches to security. The COP will provide a structured space for dialogue, knowledge exchange and best practice between policymakers, researchers and practitioners about how to best design and deliver human-centred approaches to security. Human security can be understood as a practical framework for managing systemic risks, protecting and empowering individuals and communities, and strengthening their capacity to build resilience and sustainable stability.
The COP will meet monthly and kick off with practical examples that look at current approaches to human-centred security, followed by time for questions and broader discussion. Sessions will be around one hour and held virtually. Each month will have a different thematic focus.
By connecting policymakers, researchers and practitioners across sectors, the COP will aim to reinforce the operational value of human security as a strategic complement to hard security in today’s complex and rapidly evolving environment.
The COP will be open, inclusive and global in scope. Expressions of interest are invited from:
- Policymakers at national, regional and international levels
- Practitioners within international organizations, NGOs and civil society
- Researchers and academics
- Young and emerging professionals
- Other stakeholders engaged in human security-related work
